POKER Brain Food

Examining why you play poker could be the official start of a broader self-examination of all your motivations. Psychological self-examination of any kind will not be easy. The payoff is that efforts aimed at self-understanding will always improve the quality of your life.

At a minimum, examining specifically why you play poker will help you begin to understand yourself. This is an essential first step in understanding others. Understanding yourself and others can only help improve your overall poker results.

Why do I play poker? Competition? Money? Ego? Mental gymnastics? Social life? Perhaps it's a combination of these qualities. As a phiosopher once wrote (Emerson, I think) "An un-examined life isn't worth living." As I examine my poker play, I become more conscious of behaviors that motivate me and help me understand why I do what I do. Poker seems like a microcosm of life. Games are filled with fear, disappointments, exhilarations, losses, victories, mood swings, sportmanship, rude behaviors, and the gamut of other emotions found in humankind. While playing poker, one is constantly making snap decisions that determine success or failure. As I continue along the path of self examination, I realize that not only does my poker improve, but my relationships with others are more satisfying. Ask yourselves why you play this wonderful game called poker and perhaps it will help you "Know thyself" a little better.

Above reflect my true feeling about poker and it side effect on your every day outlook. When you reach the upper age you need something that keep you interested and busy and poker is the right thing for me. I can enjoy poker from the leisure of my home and don't have to worry about the DUI's. What more can a man (or woman) want without all the other hassle that go with preparing to go to town. Don't get me wrong I still like playing live poker tournments also just to listen to other players complaining about their bad luck. It is a good change of pace to endure the torture of complaining player and to come out on top. Poker player are like no other gamblers and this is what make them a uniqe breed. For 30 long years I played a no brainer Keno game but it was a good socializing form of gambling but you do not interact with other players as you do in poker. It appears now with all the publicity that this old time sport is finally catching up with some national recognition. A liitle skill and a lot's of luck and with some good fortitude can make you a above average player. See ya at the tables.
