BOOKS
There are a lot of books on poker out there right now. All of these books talk about patience. You can see that if someone were to play every single hand in a Texas Hold 'en game, they would get massacred. So, in poker, the number one rule for amateurs is "Patience is a virtue." Learn what the strong hands are, and learn to throw away the really tempting sort of junky type of hands, like 7-9 of clubs. Tempting as the 7-9 of clubs may be, it's like a potato chip; once you eat one chip, you can't stop eating, and once you start playing "junk" hands in poker, you can't stop playing them. I personally have read very few books. Patience sounds like a big word but my opinion it is low in content. The big word is PRACTICE and this one is where most of us are short on. This is the virtue that I like to possess at lot of. I believe in practice makes prefect. All Sport player practice practice and more practice to excel in their field. Poker players have to do the same just reading books is not going to get you to the level that will see yourself at final tables in tournaments. Over the many years (to many to mention) I have learned more from other players then any book that ever been written. When playing poker you always have to be in the game even when you have folded and this is where patience plays an important part of your game. What I have just said is important not getting up from table when you are not in hand is going to make you a loser in the long run (what about those pockets ace's that you have been patiently waiting for when your hand was auto muck. Of all the poker theory I have heard about all these years just what it is theory (Hypothesis, guess). Nothing will beat hands on experience and you will get plenty chances of GUESSING. Patience in the long run will normally prevail if you have had enough practice!
